They African grey is a specie of parrot characterize by distinctive skillet group limit. It originates in a wide spread all over Africa from offshore island in the Atlantic Ocean including sao tome and Principe to eastern Cote d'ivoire through Nigeria, Cameroon the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
There are 2 separate known species of African Grey which are the Congo African Grey Parrot and the Timneh African Grey. Though the Timneh once deemed the sub species of Congo African Grey known as Psittacus Erithacus, they are now recognized since 2012 as a fully separate specie known as Psittacus Timneh by the Birdlife International Group on the basis of the Genetics, Morphology and Vocal differences.
However there is technically a third specie call Princep Grey known Psittacus E. Princeps, which is suddenly seen or can be found in the island of Principe and Fernando Pó in the Gulf of Guinea. This Bird is slightly darker than the congo African Grey
The Timneh is found in the western part of the upper Guinean forest covering Savannas in West Africa sierra leone Southern Mali and the Ivory coast.
The Congo African Grey are larger than the Timneh up to 14 inches tall and weight approximately 1 pound or or 400g. Why the Timneh reaches about 10 inches tall and weight around 6 ounces less. They both have large white areas of tiny feathers extending from behind the eyes to their beak like a white mask. The Timneh has a base upper beak why the Congo has a solid Black Beak. The tail feathers of the Congo are Bright red in comparism the Timneh has a dark tail feather. As a result of selective breeding and mutation in captivity some rare African grey parrots can even have White tails or be completely reddish in color.
As for nutrition the African Grey is partly a Ground Feeder. In the Wild it feeds on Fruits, Nuts, Flowers tree backs and even Insects and Snails. In captivity they eat Bird Pallets which is made to give birds every nutrients they need why preventing selective eating. They Grey also eat Nuts, Seeds, Lots of Fruits and Vegetables. In a whole nuts are different from it's diet in the wild.
African grey nest in tree trunks, they can lay 3 to 5 eggs why the incubate for 30 days. Both Parents raise their chicks feeding them until they are 12 weeks old after which they chicks leave the nest as fully grown Birds.
